SK Dublin Adult Volunteer Programme
This programme allows young adults (aged 18 to 30 years) the opportunity to work as a volunteer in Ireland for periods of 2 to 8 weeks.
Location
Arklow, Co. Wicklow. A busy town of approximately 15,000 on the coast just one hour south of Dublin. The town has a popular shopping centre, cinema, swimming pools, library, nightclubs, pubs, supermarkets and a language school. Everything is within walking distance.
Volunteer Positions
We organise positions with Arklow Tidy Towns who work to improve the local environment, keep Arklow tidy and help maintain gardens and public areas. The work is done by local volunteers and workers on government schemes. Typical work would involve painting, gardening, picking litter, sweeping and hedge-trimming.
We also work with local charity shops who raise money through the sale of second-hand goods in their shops. Typical work here would involve sorting donations, cataloguing, display and selling goods.
All the above are unpaid positions.
Accommodation
Volunteers live with local host-family who provide own room, breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal. The families all live in the town of Arklow.
English Classes
Available at Arklow Language School two evenings per week. The classes are from 1900-2100 Tuesday and Thursdays. They cost €35 per week or €130 for 4 weeks.
Support
SK Dublin is available locally to provide support and advice during the volunteer’s stay.
Airport Transfers
There is a bus connection direct from Dublin airport to Arklow (€20). The host-family can collect the volunteer from the bus stop in Arklow. Alternatively, an airport transfer can be booked with SK Dublin at a cost of €100 per transfer.
